With its collection of universal knowledge and creativity the library of congress is the largest library in the world and is also the nations oldest federal cultural institution, and Dr. James H. Billington has the honor of being the librarian for the library of congress. The library's resource is available to both congress and the american people. The Library of congress is stationed in three buildings. The Jefferson building which is located at independance av and 1st ave (visiting hours are on monday-saturday from 10:00am to 5:30pm), The John Adams building which is located at independance ave and 3rd st (visitiong hours are 8:30am-9:30pm on mondays, wednesdays and thursdays and 8:30am-5:30pm on tuesdays, fridays and saturdays), The James Madison building is located on Independance ave and 2nd st (visiting hours are mondays-fridays from 8:30am-9:30pm and from 8:30am-6:30pm on saturdays). All buildings are closed on sundays
